[00:11] Our last episode showed you why you should learn how to grow cannabis outdoors. We hope we convinced you. If so, this episode will give you an overview of the outdoor cannabis grow calendar and what to expect month by exciting month.

[00:30] Hey guys. Welcome back to How to Grow Cannabis Outdoors with Nikki and Swami.

[00:44] If you have a medium to large garden, this is the perfect time to start your compost pile and have a general tidy up. If you haven't chosen your seeds yet, now is the time. We love choosing seeds — sometimes it takes as long as a month.

[01:02] If it's not too icy outdoors, this is a great time to prepare your soil. Are you planting in pots or directly into the ground? Do you need your soil testing? Will you use existing soil with amendments or new soil? Take this opportunity to get ahead.

[01:27] When the weather and soil warm up, it's time to prepare the garden beds. If this is your first outdoor garden, you need to choose the best spot — the place that'll receive the most sun. You may also need to build a cold frame as a protective shelter for your plants.

[01:54] When the moon cycle is waxing in early April in a fertile earth or water sign, it's time to sprout your seeds. Sprouting days can be earlier or later depending on your latitude and the last hard spring frost. We wait until the momentum of spring is evident.

[02:34] Late May, early June is around the time the plants start showing their sex. Check them every day and remove the males as required. Any females that show their sex can be transplanted to their final spots.

[02:56] By the summer solstice, most of your females should have shown their sex and been moved to the main garden. The next few months will see a rapid period of growth known as the vegetative stage, during which you can experiment with training methods such as topping.

[03:23] In July, towards the end of June, no later than early July, your plants will need additional support in the form of trellising. The branches are about to get a whole lot heavier.

[03:40] Your plants will start to form buds in the first week of August when the hours of darkness are more than nine and a half hours. The period is known as flowering. Check again for males, be extra vigilant for pests and pathogens, and make sure the support frame is doing its job.

[04:16] September is a good time to prepare your drying room. As a rule of thumb, it takes just as much space to dry the plants as it does to grow them. Make sure your drying room has working fans, dehumidifiers, and good light deprivation. Have your room ready at least two weeks before you harvest.

[04:53] All but the oldest plants should have completed their drying cycle and will now rest in their curing containers. Cure should last at least a month, but we like to cure our buds until late January, even February at the earliest.

[05:14] Some of your buds should have now been cured for months. If you can't wait until the new year, pop a jar and give yourself an amazing Christmas gift: sun-grown, homegrown cannabis.

[05:37] Growing outdoors is a year-long adventure with something to do every month. The more you plan and prepare, the easier it will be to grow amazing plants.
