[00:04] Hey guys, I'm Parker Curtis with Homegrown Cannabis Co., and welcome back for another smoke test and strain review. Today we have Hindu Kush.
[00:11] This is a classic indica. It's been cultivated in the Kush Mountains for thousands of years.
[00:48] Today we have Hindu Kush, and this is considered a landrace strain, so they've been cultivating it for thousands of years. It is your classic indica. It is from the Kush Mountains that stretch across from Pakistan through Afghanistan. And one of the varieties that they brought back is the basis for a lot of different strains that we have.
[01:10] It's adapted to growing on the mountainsides where there's strong winds, so it has a nice hearty structure to it. It will tend to kind of bush out, so with a bit of training and trimming, you can lollipop it and kind of work with that habit to bush out horizontally.
[01:28] That's going to up your yields, and if you trim it correctly and kind of take off that undergrowth, it tends to be mold and mildew resistant. Although this strain does great outdoors, it's best suited indoors with a hydroponic sea of green.
[01:43] One of the things to up your yield is to leave it in veg for an extra week or two to kind of let those lower branches develop out. It tends to form a central cola, so trimming and topping will be crucial to upping your yield with this.
[01:59] If you lower the temperatures while it's flowering, you'll get really pretty purple notes on it. It won't affect potency, but it has a really nice aesthetic to it. The bag appeal on the purple streaks in the bud is awesome.
[02:14] This is not a purple strain, but it responds well to that kind of drop in temperature because of where it is typically grown in the mountainside. The seeds that we have at Homegrown Cannabis Co. are very hardy, and they do resist hermaphroditing.
[02:49] Because this plant's so small, it also benefits from giving it a few extra weeks in veg to kind of let the canopy develop, let it bush out a bit. It does flower very fast, so keeping it small and compact.
[03:08] This is a classic indica. It's a landrace strain. This is the basis for a lot of indicas that we're familiar with. Similar to Durban Poison, another landrace strain, it's been cultivated in that region for thousands of years.
[03:35] It's about 18%, and you'll typically yield about 1.1 to 1.3 pounds per square foot. Usually, harvest time's about seven to eight weeks.
[04:00] It's got these nice dense buds on it. Very resinous, very frosty. These things are built to support themselves, built to handle anything you can throw at them, and they are perfect for a SCROG method, sea of green.
[04:37] This is a great indica to start with, especially if you have limited space or if you are worried about privacy. It is adapted to growing on the mountainside. Very high winds, cold temperatures, hot days, cold nights.
[05:04] So this Hindu Kush is at about 18%. In large doses, it can really knock you out. It doesn't necessarily give you the couch lock that some of the other indicas do, but it kind of fades into a nice, happy, cerebral high. Basically a pure indica. A strong body buzz to it.
[05:34] If you want to relax after work and just kind of unwind and relax, this is a great way to go. It's kind of a nightcap.
[05:54] This strain doesn't have quite the same mouth-watering aroma that some of our other strains do, but it has a sharp, piney smell to it, like a lot of classic indicas.
[06:09] It's this nice, easy, mellow smoke.
[06:28] So this strain has a lot of limonene and pinene in it, which has a very pleasant, mellow taste to it. It's kind of like a sandalwood, resinous. It's very earthy and piney.
[06:55] You can see why they brought this over. This is a great indica base for a lot of strains that we have, and it's nice to go back to the classics and see where the lineage is in some of these strains.
[07:25] This is one of the classics. If you want kind of that old school indica heavy high, this is a great one.
[07:32] But this is a great strain to grow if you have limited space or if you're concerned about privacy, apartment grow tent. This is a great one. It's got nice dense buds, super resinous. That's one of the things that this strain's known for, just very heavy resin production.
